Basic Theory

Before playing guitar, you must first understand the basic theory.
(Don't think it's very nagging, it's very useful for you to play any songs and also for chord playing.)
[It would help you to build up or play any chords easily.

For example, the C chord.

The 1st string
[None of the fret of that string is pressed, so it still remains as E]

The 2nd string
[The string is B when it's left opened, the 1st fret of the string is pressed, now it becomes C]

The 3rd string
[None of the fret of that string is pressed, so it still remains as G]

The 4th string
[The string is D when it's left opened, the 2nd fret of the string is pressed, now it becomes E]

The 5th string
[The string is A when it's left opened, the 3rd fret of the string is pressed, now it becomes C]

The 6th string
[None of the fret of that string is pressed, so it still remains as E]
(In the common C chord, this string is not played)

  • # (sharp) : Up     1-Half Steps  [Higher 1 key
  • Each fret goes up = Up 1-Half Steps
    For example :
[B up 1-half steps is B# which is also C]

  • b (flat)    : Down 1-Half Steps  [Lower 1 key]
  • Each fret goes down = Down 1-Half Steps
    For example :
[G down 1-half steps is Gb which is also F#]

By understanding the theory, you will find out that you can tune the guitar without depending on the guitar tuner.
